The French are ready to allocate 3,351 euros to their eco-renovation work

With the rise in energy prices in recent years, the French energy bill has exploded, (+23% since 2022). To reduce expenses, they use different strategies, 86% have adopted eco-gestures on a daily basis, 72% have less heating this winter and 71% also bet on eco-renovation work.

KEY FIGURES

  •  8 out of 10 French people say that, with inflation, it is essential for them to reduce their energy expenditure.
  • 54% of respondents consider that eco-renovation work is necessary in their home.
  • 3,351 euros is the average budget that the French are willing to allocate to their eco-renovation work.
  • For 73% of French people, eco-renovation works have a real positive impact on the environment.

MONTHLY ENERGY BUDGET REACHES NEW RECORD

Today, French people spend an average of €245 per month on energy in their homes, €16 more than in 2023 (the highest amount since 2012). Nearly 7 out of 10 French people believe that the energy expenditure of their homes weighs heavily on their budget.

To compensate for the rise in energy prices, the French are trying to limit their consumption. 86% of them say that they integrate eco-gestures into their daily lives and 72% have heated their homes less this winter. Nevertheless, for more than 8 out of 10 French people, good practices have not been enough to reduce bills and they will have to opt for different strategies.

THE ECO-RENOVATION WORKS WOULD ALLOW A MONTHLY SAVING OF ABOUT 14%

To act more concretely on their bills, the French are therefore betting on the renovation of their housing. More than 7 out of 10 respondents have embarked on work over the past five years to reduce the energy consumption of their homes. 16% of French people opted to change their heating appliances, 15% to install double glazing while 14% chose attic insulation.

This work seems to have borne fruit since it allowed the French who made them to make significant savings on their bills. They see an average monthly decline of 14%. In addition to the profits on the wallet, this work also has a real positive impact on the environment according to nearly three quarters of the French (73%).

THE FRENCH WOULD ALLOCATE 3,351 EUROS FOR ECO-RENOVATION WORK

Even if they are convinced of the benefits of eco-renovation, the French are confronted with the question of financing the work. Thus, more than one in two respondents (57%) would like to carry out work, but does not necessarily have the means. The average budget that the French would be willing to spend is 3,351 euros.

While there are aids of the “MaPrimeRénov” type, their incentive effect on the French is relatively limited. More than six out of ten respondents consider that the existing aid to enable this type of work to be envisaged is insufficient (68%), as is the amount of savings that can be made by using it (62%). Thus, only 42% of the French plan to use them (-8pts compared to 2023).

If they were to carry out work soon, the French would prefer other methods of financing. More than a third would consider taking out a loan, 31% would opt for a cash payment while 28% would choose to pay in installments.

France has several million energy sieves and if the country wants to meet its climate targets by 2030, it will have to carry out more than 200,000 renovations in 2024 alone. Even if the government support system accompanies this transition, credit players will have to mobilize massively and show agility to meet the needs of as many French people as possible.
