Energy renovation: For 6 out of 10 craftsmen, the start of work is slowed down by access to financing and public aid

While the goal of reducing thermal sieves in France is ambitious, the latest Sofinscope focuses on craftsmen labeled RGE (Recognized Guarantor of the Environment) and what they see on a daily basis alongside customers who want to renovate their home. Financing remains a major obstacle since nearly half of the craftsmen specify that the lack of financial means is the main reason cited by their customers to explain the refusal of their quote and they are 66% to declare that the launch of their customers’ work is slowed down by access to MaPrimeRénov’ type aids.

  • For 64% of craftsmen, energy renovation work on private dwellings represents half or more of the work they carry out.
  • 6 out of 10 craftsmen are able to accompany their customers to prepare their MaPrimeRénov’-type aid application.
  • 63% of craftsmen consider that access to financing solutions is also a brake on the start of work.

ACCESS TO FINANCE, A MAJOR OBSTACLE TO ENERGY RENOVATION OF HOUSING

3,351 euros is the average budget that the French are willing to allocate to renovate their housing (Sofinscope – June 2024). A tight budget that requires relying on government aid, considered the main source of financing for individuals (64%), and various financing solutions (conventional depreciable credit, green loan, payment in installments, etc.).

According to 46% of craftsmen, the lack of financial means is one of the main reasons put forward by their customers to explain the refusal of quotes and more than 6 out of 10 craftsmen say that the steps to access financial aid like MaPrimeRénov’ as those to access a financing solution are a brake on the start of the work.

ARTISANS, AN INTERMEDIARY TO HELP CUSTOMERS FINANCE THEIR RENOVATION WORK

Faced with these financial obstacles, RGE artisans position themselves as advisors for their clients because they are able to accompany them to prepare their application for government aid (59% of them) or subcontract this service (17%) and they offer different financing solutions (25%).

One in four craftsmen would like to offer more financing solutions to their customers.

As a funder, we must be facilitators of energy renovation by accompanying housing professionals, be agile to meet the needs of a maximum of French people in terms of financing and access to government aid. Advice and support for the constitution of files are essential.
