Environmental concerns are now influencing travel behavior. According to a study by SOfinscope , 45% of French people say that the ecological impact of travel influences their choice of destination. This trend is part of a gradual shift towards more responsible vacations.
Among the notable developments, rail travel is gaining ground: 51% of French people prefer it to flying for their trips within France and Europe. Furthermore, 21% are considering renting an electric car for their holidays. The choice of transport mode is thus becoming a concrete way to reduce one’s carbon footprint.
The search for meaning is also reflected in the destinations chosen. 58% prefer “green” holidays, and 39% choose establishments with a sustainable label. These choices demonstrate a growing interest in tourism that is more locally rooted and more environmentally friendly.
Consumer habits are also changing. 51% prefer second-hand equipment for their holidays, and 41% are considering “screen-free” vacations. Holidays are becoming a time to experiment with simpler lifestyles.
Despite these developments, some obstacles remain. Only 30% say they are willing to increase their budget to travel more sustainably. Sustainable mobility is progressing, but remains constrained by economic factors.
